Week 4 Inquiry

I chose to inquire about pre-ad rolls NEXT WEEK because of the amount of content that I have created this week. I streamed for 6 out of 7 days during reading week and had long streams including one that was 7 hours and 21 minutes long. I streamed 30 hours 29 minutes. I received 358 follows throughout the week. I had 49 average viewers for the week. I thought this week would be more exhausting considering the amount of streaming that I did throughout the week. I streamed on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

This week started off very excited with a 17 game win streak which is insane. It made me excited to stream because winning is ALWAYS fun! On Thursday, I received 55 followers, 2 subscriptions, and rolled 8 minutes of ad breaks totaling about 7 dollars of profit for the day. I had 41 average viewers and 87 max viewers which was not too impressive. I was enjoying talking with chat and had no toxic chatters this stream with a total of 629 chat messages. This day was very simple with no clip worthy moments.

On the 19th of February I felt good about my gameplay, but my win streak ended at 18 wins which really impressed my chat. I streamed for 3 hours and 6 minutes because I had to work at 5 o’clock that night. I had a lot of chatters for only 3 hours with 801 chat messages. I had 6 minutes of ad breaks and 2 subscriptions which totaled $6.53. I only received 39 followers, but that isn’t bad for a short 3 hour stream. I had 92 max viewers and 45 average viewers. My streams have been improving as I grow in skill and strategic gameplay. Here is an example of strategic gameplay that my viewers enjoy.

Once Sunday came around I had the day off work and was excited to have a long stream of 4 hours and 56 minutes. I got NO subscriptions on Sunday which was really underwhelming and hurt a little bit. It is always sad to stream for 5 hours and receive no subscription money. I still managed to make $3.25 in pre-roll ads because I had about 10 minutes of ads throughout my 5 hour stream. I had an increase in maximum and average viewers with 100 max viewers and 51 average viewers.

On Monday I had a EXTREMELY long stream of 7 hours and 21 minutes. I only had 47 average viewers and 82 maximum viewers. I got 90 followers which is okay but not amazing for a 7 hour stream. I had 841 chatters so my chat wasn’t too interaction on Monday. I always have to consider that many of my viewers are at school and work during the day on Monday. I received 2 subscriptions and 15 minutes of pre-roll ads adds up to 9 dollars and 22 cents of profit on the stream.

On Tuesday I had a great day for subscriptions and received 10 subscriptions! I had a great day with no raids of 123 maximum viewers and 66 average. A big upgrade from previous days. I streamed for 6 hours and 13 minutes. With 13 minutes of ads and 10 subscriptions, I made $30 on the day! I had 983 chatters. A fun and great day.

Wednesday was the final day of the week and I streamed for 4 hours and 43 minutes. I had a very unimpressive stream with only 37 average viewers and 59 maximum viewers. I was happy with getting 5 gifted subscriptions and having 10 minutes of ads which made me $14. I didn’t get a great amount of reach because I only had 509 chat messages and 30 followers.

This week made me upset because I hoped to receive more support and more viewership. I love to see in incline in viewers and when that doesn’t happen it can be underwhelming. I still love to play Counter-Strike and stream but receiving little compensation for it can be aggravating. I still plan to continue streaming and hopefully come up with ways to increase my subcount and hopefully hit 15,000 followers on Twitch and 5,000 followers on Instagram by the end of this inquiry.

Week 3 inquiry

This week was great for my streaming and reach on social media. I made time to stream 4 times from the week of February 10th to 16th. I streamed on Thursday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I averaged 70 viewers for the week which was a slight upgrade from the week before. I had a fun time and plenty of clips taking of my channel by viewers. I had a clip taken of a funny tendency that I do while in game that I tweeted and recieved a good reach of 13,800 impressions, 122 likes, 1 retweet, and 11 comments. The link is below

On Thursday, I had a slower day of only 40 average viewers and a max viewers of 73. Nevertheless, this was not bad considering I only streamed for 2 hours and 41 minutes. I received 1 subscription and had 6 minutes of ad breaks totaling 4 dollars in revenue from the stream. I had okay interaction in my chat with 496 chat messages. I had only 21 engagements with my stream notification which is a -5 decrease of engagements from my previous stream.

Sunday was a better day than Thursday, but still not the best. I streamed for 2 hours and 44 minutes, very similar to the previous day. I received 2 subscriptions and 6 minutes of ad breaks totaling of around 6 dollars profit. I had 83 max viewers and 46 average followers which is an improvement from Thursday. There was a drop in chat interaction with only 269 chat messages comparing to 496 in the previous day. I received 28 follows.

On Tuesday I had a GREAT day. I streamed for a whopping 7 hours and 13 minutes and received 105 average with 885 viewers maximum. I received a raid from a professional counter-strike player which significant raised my follow count +197 from the stream. With 15 minutes of ad breaks and 1 subscription, I received about $8 in revenue. I had an intense amount of chat engagement with 2,572 chat messages. It was overwhelming to receive the raid from the Albanian player because many of his viewers only spoke Albanian and flooded my chat with their native language.

On Wednesday, I had a good day. I streamed for 3 hours and 52 minutes. I had 48 average viewers and a 111 maximum with no raids. I received 101 follows with no raids which was a great accomplishment for me. I only got one subscription which I was upset about. I want to work on ways to increase my subscription count considering my high amount of viewers. My stream had 810 chatters and 8 minutes of ad breaks.

In the next couple of weeks, I want to look into the pros and cons of pre-roll ads and the drop in viewers when the ads are rolling. I am so excited to continue streaming and overwhelmed by the support I am receiving from my community.

Week 6 Reflection

This week, we had an introduction to EdCamp! Edcamp is an interactive seminar where teachers come together and decide what they would like to learn about as a whole. It is a great place to meet other educators and have conversations about what we are passionate about. I think Edcamp is a innovative idea and I will definitely explore it more in the following years. At Edcamp ideas are put on the front with sticky notes so everyone has the chance to have their idea heard.

Week 2 inquiry

This week I streamed five days in a row. I streamed Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I want to make sure I give this a good shot if I’m going to attempt to see the jump in stats. This week I saw a significant increase in statistics regarding average viewers, new followers, subscriptions, and more. The biggest jump from the 26st of January to the 9th of February was the amount of new followers during the stream. On the 26st of January, I received 7 followers and on the 9th, I received 86 followers during the stream.

On Saturday, my stream statistics were similar to the 26st but instead of streaming for 5 hours I streamed for only 2 and a half hours. I received only two new subscribers. My viewers maxed out at 44 and I only had one new follower. The stream on Saturday made me hopeful for the fact that I only streamed for two hours and still received a similar amount of viewers to the day I streamed for 5 hours. I was beginning to feel more comfortable on the camera and in my community for the longer that I streamed.

On Sunday, I saw a slight incline in my statistics and streamed for 4 hours and thirty minutes. I maxed out at 71 viewers which is quite an increase to the day before. I had 39 average viewers which is 14 more average viewers than the previous day. Seeing this progression made me hopeful for my future in streaming. I received another three subscriptions which would be putting me up five subscriptions for the week.

On Monday, I noticed a steady increase in my average viewers which was 46; but, I noticed my peak viewers was lower at 67. I got 36 new followers and another two new subscribers. I streamed for only three hours and had a average viewer count of 46 which really impressed me. I can feel my confidence growing as I begin to gain the support of my twitch community again.

On Tuesday, I maxed out at 91 viewers! I averaged at 60 viewers. Isn’t it excited how the numbers continue to go up? I love streaming because of this obvious progression and how exciting it is and the confidence I receive from it. I got 59 new followers which is more than I had gotten in any other day. I streamed for four hours and received seven new subscriptions. This week I have received 14 new subscriptions. It is crazy to imagine that if my progress for this week was on a graph that it was have a full upward climb.

On Wednesday, I had a max viewers of 322! This is a huge upgrade from the day before. I averaged 66 viewers which is still an increase to the day before. I got a whopping 16 subscriptions! That is more than double than the subscriptions that I had gotten days before. I now have gotten a total of 30 new subscriptions this week. Another statistic I would like to highlight is my new followers which was 82. I had an amazing week streaming and I cannot wait for next week and to be able to share how it went.

Week 5 Reflection

In week five of our class we learned about Personal Learning Networks (PLN). PLN refers to a network of resources and people that can be used to further your education. We learned in class that having a PLN is important and we should start developing ours ASAP. A good way to start developing a PLN is by using social media to find creators and educators that appeal to your desired grade level. Pinterest is a good way to find a community of educators. PLN allows educators to continue to learn and grow from each other. Another topic we touched on this week is what life looks like for generation alpha. Generation alpha refers to people born within the years 2010- 2024. We learned about how life for children born between these years will be drastically different that any previous generation.

Welcome to my Blog

Hi! My name is Jessica Kranabetter. I am a second year Bachelor of Education student from the University of Victoria. Outside of school I am an avid social media user and twitch streamer. I will focus my free inquiry on my experiences each week with twitch streaming and a weekly update of stats from my stream. I am super excited to share my streaming experience with everyone as I have been doing it since January of 2021 and have achieved many things already that I will further speak on in my inquiry blog posts.

Free Inquiry – Twitch Streaming

Welcome to my inquiry where I will be diving into my twitch streaming and write weekly reports on my progress, stats, and experiences on stream. On my twitch, JKranny, I play Counter Strike: Global Offensive and have accumulated over 10,000 followers in one year, received Twitch affiliate in my first seven days of streaming and received Twitch Partner within my first 5 months of streaming. I streamed often for the first 6 months and then stopped after Summer was over. Since summer I have streamed whenever I have had extra time. I have made a reasonable revenue of $6071.64 CAD in 2021 from Twitch. I took quite a break and will start streaming more for this inquiry project watch the incline of stats when I begin streaming regularly again.

Week 4 Reflection

In week four we has another guest speaker, Jesse Miller. It was very interesting having Jesse Miller in the class because I had seen him on a TED TALK online. In the class he instructed, we learned about social media usage and online safety. We discussed the importance of educators keeping a positive image online. I was able to expand my educator handbook and note down some essential tools I will need to keep a positive online image. I thought it was interesting when he talked about how even if you delete a photo it is always on the internet after you post it because many people don’t know that. I liked when Jesse explained that we can have content on the internet that we aren’t proud of but we have to make sure we are taking responsibility and learning from it.

Week 3 Reflection

This week we finally got to have class in-person in the computer lab. For our first in-person class we had a guest speaker , Rich McCue, who gave us a lesson on screen recording I have a video from screencastify where I used the skills that Rich taught us in class. I used screencastify and recording myself playing minesweeper.

Week 2 Reflection

This week, we started off talking about what makes a good blog post. We talked about how pictures can add value to a post. We continued to discuss copyright laws. It was refreshing to get a full background on copyright laws and how we can stay within them. Eventually we moved on to talk about our social media presence and keeping a clean digital footprint. This means being respectable and professional on the internet too. Discussing our image on the internet was a place of interest for me because I have a large footprint on the internet already and I need to know how to monitor it and use it.
